Etsy Fee Calculator
See exactly what Etsy takes and what you keep on a sale.
U.S. sellers only — payment processing fees vary by the seller's bank-account country, and only the U.S. rate is modeled here. Last verified: 2026-08-27 (see Source section below).
Some orders include sales tax that Etsy collects and sends to the state on your behalf — it isn't your revenue, but Etsy's payment-processing fee is calculated on top of it. Leave this at $0 if no tax applies.
Under $10,000 in past-365-day sales, Offsite Ads participation is optional: opt in and Etsy charges 15% only on sales that come from an Offsite Ad click. Opt out and this fee never applies.
Fee Breakdown
What this calculator includes: Etsy's listing fee ($0.20/listing); transaction fee (6.5% of item price + shipping you charge); U.S. Etsy Payments processing fee (3% of item price + shipping + any sales tax collected, plus $0.25 per order); and the Offsite Ads advertising fee (12% or 15% of the order total — item price + shipping — capped at $100 per order, only on orders attributed to an Offsite Ad click).
What it excludes: gift wrapping charges (not currently a supported input — if you charge for gift wrapping, add that amount to the shipping field as a workaround, since Etsy's transaction fee applies to it the same way it applies to shipping), VAT collected outside the U.S., currency conversion fees, non-U.S. payment processing rates, Etsy Plus subscription costs, Pattern/website fees, shipping label costs, and any regulatory fees specific to your region.
Limitations: Etsy fees and policies can change at any time; official Etsy documentation always controls over this estimate. Sales tax entered here is assumed to be fully passed through to the state (it is excluded from "Your Net Payout," which reflects only item price + shipping), but it still increases the payment-processing fee, exactly as Etsy calculates it — this means the processing fee is charged on money you don't keep, which is expected, not a bug in this calculator. Assumption: sales tax is included in the payment-processing fee base because that is explicitly documented, but is not included in the Offsite Ads fee base — only "order total" (item price + shipping) is documented for that fee, with no mention of tax, so this calculator does not add tax to it.

Worked Examples
- Below $10k threshold, opted in to Offsite Ads: $40 item + $5 shipping, no tax → listing $0.20, transaction $2.93, processing $1.60, Offsite Ads (15% of $45 order total) $6.75 → total fees $11.48, net payout $33.52.
- At/above $10k threshold (Offsite Ads mandatory): same $40 item + $5 shipping, no tax → listing $0.20, transaction $2.93, processing $1.60, Offsite Ads (12% of $45 order total, mandatory) $5.40 → total fees $10.13, net payout $34.88.
- No Offsite Ads at all (under $10k, opted out): $25 item + $6 shipping, no tax → listing $0.20, transaction $2.02, processing $1.18, Offsite Ads $0.00 → total fees $3.40, net payout $27.60.
- Complete order with every fee, including sales tax and the Offsite Ads cap: $700 item + $15 shipping + $3.20 sales tax, under $10k tier, opted in to Offsite Ads → listing $0.20, transaction $46.48, processing $21.80 (base includes the $3.20 tax), Offsite Ads would be $107.25 uncapped but is capped at $100.00 → total fees $168.47, net payout $546.53 (net is based on the $715 item + shipping only — the $3.20 tax passes through to the state and isn't part of the seller's revenue).

Last verified: 2026-08-27. These four Etsy Help articles were independently checked directly against current official Etsy documentation on that date, confirming: the U.S. payment-processing fee base includes item price, shipping/postage, and applicable sales tax (this was the specific open question flagged in an earlier version of this repair, and is now resolved); the transaction fee base is item price plus shipping/postage (and gift wrapping, when charged); and the Offsite Ads fee applies to the order total (item price + shipping), is 15% below $10,000 in trailing-365-day shop sales (participation optional) or 12% at/above that threshold (participation mandatory for the shop's lifetime), and is capped at $100 per order.
How Etsy Fees Work
- Listing Fee ($0.20) — Charged each time you list or renew an item. Auto-renews every 4 months or when sold.
- Transaction Fee (6.5%) — Applied to the full sale price including shipping you charge the buyer.
- Payment Processing (3% + $0.25, U.S. sellers) — For Etsy Payments, calculated on item price + shipping + any sales tax collected on the order. Rates vary by the seller's bank-account country; this calculator only models the U.S. rate.
- Offsite Ads (15% below $10,000/yr in sales, 12% at or above $10,000/yr, capped at $100/order) — Charged on the order total (item price + shipping) only when the order came from a click on an Etsy-placed ad elsewhere on the web. Below the threshold, participation is optional; at or above it, Etsy requires participation for the lifetime of the shop.
Tips to Maximize Your Payout
- Factor in all fees when setting your prices — don't price based on item price alone.
- Charge accurate shipping — transaction fees apply to shipping, so free shipping isn't always worth it.
- If you're under the $10,000/yr threshold, you can opt out of Offsite Ads entirely to avoid that fee on those sales — once you cross the threshold, participation becomes mandatory going forward.
About this Etsy Fee Calculator
Etsy charges several separate fees on each sale — a listing fee, a transaction fee (a percentage of the sale price), and a payment processing fee — which together commonly total roughly 8–10% of the sale price for U.S. sellers, meaningfully reducing what a seller actually takes home compared to the listed price. Sellers who participate in Offsite Ads (optional below $10,000 in past-365-day sales, mandatory at or above it) also pay a 15% or 12% advertising fee, capped at $100 per order, on any order attributed to one of those ads. Any sales tax collected on an order also raises the payment-processing fee slightly, since Etsy calculates that fee on the tax-inclusive total even though the tax itself passes through to the state.
Fees should be priced in from the start
A price that looks profitable before fees can turn into a thin or negative margin once transaction and processing fees are subtracted, if those fees weren't accounted for when the price was originally set. Calculating the actual take-home amount before listing avoids an unpleasant surprise after the first few sales.
